Online Christian Homeschool

Life is becoming more and more technology driven and as a result of the advances in technology we can now have access to online education for our children.

Online homeschooling can be such a blessing for families who wish to homeschool their children but do not want to take on the entire weight that it can bring with it. It is also fantastic for those families who are road schooling and need to reduce the amount of weight in their rig. Textbooks can be HEAVY! Online schooling on the road leave you more time to be planning your route and having fun rather than having the headache of trying to organise multiple children’s school work while on the road. You can read more about road schooling here.

You may desire to choose a christian online homeschool because there is no private christian school in your area that you like or simply that the fees are just a little out of reach. An online christian homeschool can be a fantastic middle ground for your family.

1. Easy Peasy All in One Online Homeschool

This was the very first homeschool curriculum I used with my preschoolers! I know many other families who have used it all the way through to the end of high school also.

The wonderful aspect of this curriculum is that it is free. The writer of the curriculum began by putting her own children’s work online in order to preserve it for younger siblings. This in turn became somewhat of a ministry to help other families who wanted to homeschool but felt the couldn’t due to the lack of funds.

This curriculum is very well done and thorough. All you will need is pencil, paper and a few supplies if you choose to do the art lessons and experiments.

2. Tapestry of Grace

Tapestry of Grace is a bit of a mix between online and hardcopy curriculum. For the online homeschooling curriculum you are bale to view all the resources online but you will need to print out the assignments. This is quite similar to several online homeschools where you have a work book for assignments.

Tapestry of Grace follows a very classical homeschool philosophy. It is a series of unit studies which are broken down into a four year rotation. Once you complete four years of the curriculum you will then repeat it again but this time at an older age where you can take in more information and develop a deeper understanding of the material.

You are free to choose either an entire year plan or just specific units to purchase. They also offer a free trial so you can see if it is right for you.

The cost is $189 for a full online year plan

3. Ambleside Online

This curriculum is also a free online christian homeschool curriculum. It follows the Charlotte Mason philosophy towards education.

It is not a set curriculum per-say but a collection of books at an appropriate grade level which will cover all subject excluding math. Each book list is divided into categories and topics for the child to learn and study from. Different topics are introduced and explored in detail throughout the year.

The child also engages in regular copywork, poetry and bible study.

Ambleside online gives you a beautiful example of how to plan out your day in order to cover all that needs to be addressed through out the year to ensure that your child is receiving a quality education that is enriched in christian values and teachings.

4. Learning by Grace

Learning by Grace is an online non-denominational christian homeschool curriculum which aims to provide children with an education based on God’s word. They offer courses from kindergarten through to twelfth grade

Learning by Grace offers three different academies depending what level of support you desire.

  • Jubilee Academy: This is the academy with the least support. You as the parent do all the teaching and grading. The academy supplies you with all the materials to do so.
  • Grace Academy: Grace Academy is the next level up in support. In this academy you will have access to teachers to help with the teaching and grading. You will still be required to be registered as a homeschooler.
  • The Morning Star Academy: This academy has the highest level of support available. It is a private online christian school that offers a fully accredited curriculum. Upon graduations seniors will earn a high school diploma. You do not have to be registered as a homeschooler in order to enrol in Morning Star Academy since it is a private school.

The cost of enrolling in each academy is $1245, $2795 and $2749 respectively. There is the option to pay in instalments and also to select individual courses rather than a full subject load.

5. NFC Academy

NFC is a fully accredited online christian homeschool curriculum. It offers either home based parent taught lessons as well as virtual lessons taught by the academy’s teachers.

The classes include lessons in all subjects including bible study. You will have a qualified teacher to help guide you throughout the entire year to ensure you are successful and to answer any questions and address your concerns should they arise.

I really do like the level of support that is offered here and the fact that it is a fully accredited school gives it a lot of weight in my book especially for students heading off to college. It just makes it that little bit easier for them.

The cost of this curriculum varies and increases with the child’s grade level but is around $1k-2K per year. There are however wonderful discounts for families serving as missionaries.

6. Homeschool Academy

The Homeschool Academy‘s online christian homeschool curriculum has the Bible as the centre of all that it teaches. They have seamlessly intertwined teaching from the Bible into each homeschooling subject offered.

They offer online homeschool course for grades k-12. The academy is fully accredited and high school students can even enrol in dual enrolment in order to start on their college career while still in high school. If you are unsure about what dual enrolment is and why this is a fantastic opportunity you need to read this post.

The homeschool academy also has the innovative option of being able to sit in on live classes virtually. There is ample support for you as a parent and for your child. They will definitely not lack for help if it is required.

This is one of the more expensive online christian schools starting at around $900 for kindergarten and about $3k for high school and dual enrolment courses. With that said however it is still very much cheaper than a brick and mortar christian private school.

7. Enlightium Christian Academy

Enlightium is an online private christian academy which offers a faith based education for children in grades 3-12. It is a fully accredited program that has extensive teacher support and teaching availability.

Children can have access to their teachers via video chat, messaging and phone to guide them through lessons and help them to understand any difficulties. You as the parent are not required to do any of the teaching or grading of lessons or assignments.

You are free to enrol in classes at anytime as each month they have new starting dates. Children from all over the world can enrol in this online christian homeschool however some levels of support are only offered to those is North America.

The academy also offers its students AP classes, dual enrolment and honors.

For each grade group there are four levels of support which are priced accordingly. The high level of support that you need the higher the cost. The lowest cost being $1500 per year and the highest being $7000 per year. A school counsellor will help guide you through the process of enrolment to ensure that you select the level of support that you need and don’t pay for something that is not needed.

As you can see there are many options for online christian homeschools. The level of support and teacher/parent involvement will greatly influence the cost that you can expect to pay. The more parent involvement the lower the cost.

Online christian homeschools are are great way to provide you child with a solid education that is based on the Bible and God’s word. Private christian schools can be very expensive however even the most expensive online christian school is still going to be significantly cheaper in comparison. The benefit of nurturing your children at home and strengthening the relationships within walls of your own home is priceless.
